Magnetic Pneumatic Cylinders for Position Sensors
A magnetic pneumatic cylinder has a permanent-magnet ring on the piston. Sensors mounted on the outside of the barrel detect the magnet, so the control system knows when the cylinder has reached a position — without mechanical limit switches.
Fenitsa's magnetic series are FMY (ISO 15552), PMB (CETOP RP 53P) and the compact FMC.

Why Use a Magnetic Piston
- End-position feedback for PLC sequences.
- Intermediate positions with several sensors.
- No external switches or cams.
- Fault detection: a missing signal shows a stuck cylinder.
Fenitsa Magnetic Series
Per catalogue.
| Series | Magnetic piston | Cushioning | Standard |
|---|---|---|---|
| FMY | Yes | Adjustable | ISO 15552 |
| PMB | Yes | Adjustable | CETOP RP 53P |
| FMC | Yes | — | Compact |
Sensor Tips
- Profile bodies take sensors in their slots; round tubes use band clamps.
- Keep strong magnetic fields (welding) away from the sensors.
- Adjust the sensor at working temperature and speed.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a magnetic pneumatic cylinder?
A cylinder with a magnet ring on the piston so external sensors can detect its position.
Which Fenitsa series are magnetic?
FMY, PMB and FMC; FNC is the non-magnetic compact version.
Can a non-magnetic cylinder be converted?
No — the magnet is part of the piston; order the magnetic version.
