Mini Hydraulic Cylinders: Compact Ø40, Ø50 and Ø63

Mini hydraulic cylinders deliver tonnes of force from a small body. At 160 bar, the smallest FDH bore (Ø40) already pushes about 2 t — more than a Ø200 pneumatic cylinder at 6 bar.

Fenitsa's compact range starts at Ø40 bore with Ø25 or Ø28 rods; the table shows forces for Ø40, Ø50 and Ø63.

Typical Cylinder Functions

  • Clamping and fixtures — machine tools and welding jigs.
  • Small presses — punching, marking and assembly.
  • Mobile equipment — locks, latches and small actuators.
  • Automation — where pneumatics cannot give enough force.

Force Table

Design Requirements

  • Short stroke and compact mounting (flange or clevis).
  • Small hydraulic power unit or hand pump.
  • Rod-end thread M16×1.5 on Ø40, M20×1.5 on Ø50.
  • Stroke from 100 mm standard, other lengths on request.

Worked Example

For a push load of 1 t with a 25 % reserve, a Ø40 mm cylinder at 160 bar gives 2.1 t. With a 6 L/min pump it moves at about 80 mm/s and covers a 150 mm stroke in 1.9 s.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the smallest Fenitsa hydraulic cylinder?

The FDH series starts at Ø40 bore with a Ø25 or Ø28 rod.

Mini hydraulic or pneumatic?

Below about 1.8 t pneumatics may be enough (a Ø200 air cylinder pushes 1,884 kg at 6 bar); above that, a small hydraulic cylinder is far more compact.

Can a mini cylinder run on a hand pump?

Yes, single- and double-acting compact cylinders are often driven by a hand pump for occasional use.

How much force does a Ø50 hydraulic cylinder produce?

At 160 bar a Ø50 mm cylinder pushes 3.2 t. Force = pressure × piston area; the pull force is lower because the rod reduces the area.
