What Does an Air Tank Do?
An air tank placed close to the cylinder is a buffer volume that prevents pressure drop during sudden, high-flow demand. With long or narrow supply lines, or several cylinders firing together, it keeps cylinder speed and force stable.
Tank volume is chosen from the air one stroke consumes and the pressure drop you can accept.
| Gives | Stable pressure during peak demand |
| When | Long/narrow lines, simultaneous cylinders |
| Sizing | Air per stroke and acceptable pressure drop |

Frequently Asked Questions
How is air tank volume chosen?
From the air consumed per stroke and the allowable pressure drop.
Where should the tank go?
As close as possible to the point of use — the valve and cylinder.
Isn’t the compressor receiver enough?
Long lines lose pressure, so a local tank near the consumer makes a real difference.
