What Is a Rod-End Spherical Joint?
A rod-end spherical joint (rod eye) screws onto the piston rod and contains a spherical bearing. It tolerates a few degrees of angular misalignment, protecting the rod, bearing and seals from side load.
It is the safest rod-end connection when mounting tolerances cannot be held exactly or the load moves slightly in two planes.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does a spherical rod end do?
It tolerates small angular misalignment at the rod end and prevents side load.
When use it instead of a clevis?
When the load can tilt in two planes or alignment is not perfect.
Does it need greasing?
Greasable types last longer with periodic lubrication.
